Every task ends with a check you can see on the sales order, the website, or the ticket. Try each one on a test customer or product before you change what real customers see.
1. How to set an Odoo pricelist on a customer
A pricelist is the price that customer should get. Check it on a quotation before you rely on it.
Turn pricelists on
Go to Sales → Configuration → Settings. Under Pricing, enable pricelists and save. If the product still shows only one sales price, the feature is off or Sales is not installed.
Create one price
Open Sales, Products, Pricelists. Create a pricelist and add one product with a fixed price you can recognize. Assign that pricelist on the customer.
Prove it on a quotation
Create a quotation for that customer and add the product. The unit price should be the pricelist price, not the product’s ordinary sales price.
Check a second customer
Create a quotation for a customer without that pricelist. The same product should keep its ordinary price. If both customers get the special price, the rule is too broad.
Common questions
Will this change old quotations?
No. Check a new quotation. Update an existing draft only if you intend to reprice it.
Can one product have two prices?
Yes. Each pricelist can hold its own price. The customer decides which list applies.
What if the menu is missing?
Install Sales and enable pricelists. Labels vary slightly by version.
Odoo documents pricing in the Odoo 19 pricing page. Labels can still vary with the installed Sales app.
2. How to apply one Odoo discount code
A discount code should change the total when it is applied and put the total back when it is removed.
Create the program
Go to Sales → Configuration → Settings. Under Pricing, enable Promotions, Loyalty & Gift Card, and save. Then open Sales → Products → Discount & Loyalty, click New, and set the program type to Discount Code.
Apply it
Add a rule that contains the code and a reward that is a percentage discount on the order. Enter the code at website or point-of-sale checkout, or on a sales order when the program is available on Sales. The total should fall.
Remove it
Clear the code. The discount line should go away and the total should match the original line.
Do not leave it open by accident
Set an end date or a small use limit on a test code. A code with no end will keep discounting after the campaign.
Common questions
Why does the code do nothing?
The program may be expired, limited to other products, or not confirmed. Check those before you invent a second code.
Can I type the discount on the line instead?
You can, but then you have no code to report on. Use the program when the offer is a code.
Does this change the product price?
No. It discounts the order. The product’s list price stays.
Odoo documents discount codes in the Odoo 19 discount and loyalty page. The code field appears on the apps you mark the program available on.
3. How to invoice an Odoo down payment
A down payment invoice is only the amount you asked for now. The rest of the order stays open.
Confirm the order
Create a sales order with one line and a total you can recognize. Confirm the order. A draft quotation is not ready to invoice as a down payment.
Choose a down payment
Click Create Invoice. In the Create invoice(s) window, choose Down payment (percentage) or Down payment (fixed amount), enter a partial amount, and click Create Draft. If Odoo reports an invalid operation, the product’s invoicing policy may require a delivery first.
Read both documents
The invoice amount should be the down payment, not the order total. The order should still show a balance to invoice.
Invoice the balance later
When you invoice the rest, the new invoice should not charge the down payment again. If the customer is billed twice, stop and credit the extra before you send it.
Common questions
Is a down payment the full invoice?
No. It is the part you selected. The order keeps the remainder.
Should I edit the order total instead?
No. Keep the order total and invoice the deposit from it.
What if the customer pays the deposit?
Register the payment on the down payment invoice, not on the sales order alone.
Odoo documents the Create invoice(s) window in the Odoo 19 down payments page.
4. How to add an Odoo shipping method to an order
A delivery method is a charge and a promise. Prove the charge on one order before you connect a carrier.
Enable delivery methods
In Sales or Inventory settings, enable delivery methods and save. Install Inventory if the setting is not there.
Create a fixed price
Open Delivery Methods and create one method with a fixed price you can recognize. Leave carrier credentials empty until this price works.
Add it to an order
On a draft sales order, add that delivery method. A delivery line should appear and the total should include the fixed price.
Remove it again
Clear the delivery method. The delivery line and its price should disappear. If the total stays high, the line is still on the order.
Common questions
Do I need a carrier account first?
No. Prove a fixed price first. Add carrier rates after that order looks right.
Does the delivery line invoice itself?
It invoices with the order under your invoicing policy. Check the draft invoice includes it when you expect to charge it.
Can two methods apply at once?
Put one method on the order unless you have a reason to split the shipment.
Menu labels vary with your Odoo version, installed apps, and permissions. Compare them with the Odoo 19 applications documentation when a label differs.
5. How to publish one product on an Odoo shop
A product is public only when the shop page shows it. The product form is not the shop.
Open the shop
Install Website or eCommerce if the shop is missing. Open the shop page once so you know the address.
Allow the product
On the product, make sure it can be sold. Set a sales price and a name a visitor can understand. Publish it on the website.
Find it as a visitor
Open the shop in a browser window that is not editing the site. The product should be visible. If you only see it while logged in as an editor, it is not really published.
Unpublish the test
Unpublish the product and reload the shop. It should disappear. Do not leave a test product on a public shop.
Common questions
Is a published product in stock?
Not necessarily. Publishing shows it. Stock still depends on the product’s availability settings.
Do I need a domain first?
You can test on the Odoo address. Connect a domain before you send customers there.
Can I hide the price?
If you hide it, say how the visitor is supposed to buy. A shop page with no price and no next step is unfinished.
Menu labels vary with your Odoo version, installed apps, and permissions. Compare them with the Odoo 19 applications documentation when a label differs.
6. How to book one Odoo appointment
An appointment type is useless until one real slot can be booked and seen on a calendar.
Create the type
Open Appointments and create a type with a duration and at least one person. If the app is missing, install it first.
Give that person hours
The person needs working hours that include the slot you will book. A person with no hours produces an empty booking page.
Book one slot
Open the booking link and reserve one slot in the name of a test contact.
Find it on the calendar
The meeting should sit on that person’s calendar at the time you booked. Cancel it afterwards so you do not leave a test meeting in the way.
Common questions
Why are there no slots?
The person has no working hours in that period, or the type has no one assigned.
Can two people book the same slot?
Not if the slot allows one meeting. The second person should see it gone after the first booking is saved.
Do I email the customer myself?
Use the confirmation the appointment sends only after outgoing email works. Otherwise the booking can exist with no message.
Menu labels vary with your Odoo version, installed apps, and permissions. Compare them with the Odoo 19 applications documentation when a label differs.
7. How to close one Odoo helpdesk ticket
A ticket is closed when its stage says so. Sending a reply is not the same thing.
Open Helpdesk
Open Apps and search for Helpdesk. If it is not listed, this edition does not include it. Do not install an unrelated module to imitate it. When it is there, install it. Create a team at Helpdesk → Configuration → Helpdesk Teams if you need one, and keep a stage that means solved.
Create one ticket
Create a ticket with a customer and a short description. It should land in the new stage.
Move it
Assign it, add the reply or the note you actually sent, then move it to the solved stage.
Confirm it left the queue
Filter the team’s new or open tickets. This ticket should not be there. If email to the customer matters, confirm the outgoing mail server works before you rely on the reply.
Common questions
Does solved delete the ticket?
No. You can still open it. It leaves the open queue.
What if there is no solved stage?
Add a stage on the team and use that. Do not invent a status in the description.
Can a customer reopen it?
Only if your team allows that. Otherwise create a new ticket and link it.
Odoo documents teams and tickets in the Odoo 19 Helpdesk page. Helpdesk is not included in every edition.
