1. What OpenAI released on 26 October
Terra is a GPT-6.1 model for high-volume professional work. OpenAI says it combines visual reasoning, computer use, and clearer writing, and that it is a step up from GPT-5.6 Terra. In the API the model id is gpt-6.1-terra. Inputs are text and images. Output is text. Audio and video are not supported. The listed context window is 1,050,000 tokens, with a maximum of 922,000 input tokens and 128,000 output tokens. The knowledge cutoff is 1 June 2026.
Reasoning effort can be set to none, low, medium, high, xhigh, or max. Medium is the default. Tool calling uses the Responses API. Those settings change cost and behavior, so record them when you compare a result with an older model.
2. Where it fits a business day
OpenAI’s own examples are the right size for a first trial: match a product photo to a catalog row, read a technical drawing, act on an application screen, or draft and revise text. The company specifically points at high-volume work such as reading incoming invoices and entering details into accounting software. That is a product goal, not a finished Odoo integration.

Use Terra when the task repeats and a person can check the fields. Keep Sol or Astra when the task is rare, high-stakes, and already failing on a cheaper model. A lower token price does not fix a wrong vendor, a wrong tax, or a posted bill.
3. Check access before you change a workflow
Terra rolls out in ChatGPT Work and Codex for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans as it reaches each account. OpenAI says the plan’s overall usage limits stay the same, and that the same allowance covers more Terra tasks than GPT-5.6 Terra. Select GPT-6.1 Terra from the model list in Work or Codex. It is not offered in Chat. It does not support UAE inference residency. API usage is billed separately from a ChatGPT subscription.
If the model is missing, wait for the rollout or check workspace model access with an admin. Do not paste production credentials into a personal account to get around a missing workspace model.
For an Odoo team, a sound pilot is a vendor bill that is not yet posted. Ask the model to list the supplier, date, currency, tax, and line amounts. A person compares that list with the PDF and types or confirms the draft. The model does not approve the bill, pay it, or reconcile the bank line unless you later build that step and authorize it.

- Sample: use a bill or catalog image you are allowed to process, with the correct fields written down first.
- Setting: start at medium reasoning. If a required field is wrong, retry once at a higher effort and keep both outputs.
- Pass rule: every money and identity field matches the source. A fluent summary with a wrong total is a failure.
- Stop rule: if two invoices in a row fail the pass rule, leave the workflow on the current process. Do not widen the pilot to live posting.
Computer use, such as clicking through a desktop app, needs the same rule. Watch the first sessions. An agent that can operate a screen can also change the wrong record. Terra meets OpenAI’s Critical cybersecurity threshold and keeps the protections described for GPT-6 Astra. That is a safety classification, not a reason to grant it your admin login.
